Non-compromised probiotics – a Swedish innovation with an on-going Colon cancer study.

Medical doctor P. L. Cedgard has been CRO and CEO in Wasa Medicals, with more than 30 years of research and clinical experience and technical innovations.

The production technique protects the bacteria and keeps them vital and vigorous for a prolonged time. This means real prolongation of sustainability with maintained viability. The ingenious structure of the tablet also gives prolonged exposure of the bacteria in the GI-tract.

Wasa Medicals have worked with Finnish scientists to ensure that the technique applied in the production of ProBion really increases the sustainability and viability.

The bacteria are protected with a technique developed by Swedish scientists. The innovation prolongs the sustainability and viability with an average of 80 % live and non-compromised bacteria cells 24 months after date of production stored in room temperature. This is 10 times more than compared to conventional probiotics in capsules.

Probiotic supplements especially if blends are not adequately tested with reference to viability and sustainability. If tested old-fashion indirect methods as plate counting is used. This does not teach how many live bacteria cells in relation to compromised or dead bacteria cells there is in the product.

Live % equals non-compromised bacteria cells gives better information if related to the total amount of bacteria cells.

To get this proper information of real quality of the product ProBion is being analysed using Fluorescence Flow Cytometric method = FFC which gives a more direct and adequate information of the conditions of the bacteria.

Capsule material could be hazardous for the probiotic bacteria as there still is toxic restituents (even if amounts are small and comply to authorised limits) and moisture 5-10%. This compromises the bacteria and in most those products live% at best before date is less than 5% and what is left could be compromised and in poor condition but still alive!

We do not recommend including probiotic bacteria into capsules whatever gelatine or vegetabilian origin their constituents are derived from! The bacteria do not like this environment.

Many producers therefore overload the amounts of bacteria by 20-30 times in pure desperation to get some nice figures from plate counting that also would include some compromised bacteria!

“As the bacteria in those products deteriorate quite quickly it would be like buying a car with 200 Horse powers and 12 months later understanding this would be just 20!”

When looking at the label beware of the disclaimer “the time of manufacture”. This could even mean when the bacteria themselves were produced. This statement shows you that the product is not liable to what is in the text on the label at best before date. This does not comply with serious quality standards! Bacteria on the market included in general have a liability of 12 months stored at -18°C!

As the ProBion tablets are very dry and its structure protects the bacteria within, there is no need for nitrogen packaging. ProBion comes with a good solid high quality closure including desiccants.

The strains used harmonize with each other, well documented and most of them are published in peer reviews. The strains are acid and bile resistant/protected.

Statements that probiotics/lactic acid producing bacteria must be of human origin are not true. Most lactobacilli are of vegetabilian origin. Bifidobacteria should be of human origin.

Those chosen are adaptive to the human GI-tract at the most for two weeks from intake.

Some scientists define this as colonizing but more honestly is to call those for transitory strains. That means that you need to take them consistently as conditioning your internal ecology.

There are no raw materials added in the production with reference to soy, dairies, artificial colourings or aromas, allergens or GMP.

What is meant by stability and shelf life?

It does not tell you anything about real quality.

What is meant by sustainability and viability?

It does tell you something about real quality.

What is meant by compromised and non-compromised bacteria lcells?

It really does tell you about real quality.
